If you are a victim of domestic abuse, it is important that you know your rights and the interventions that the Family Courts will make in order to protect victims.
What is Domestic Abuse?
Domestic Abuse can be suffered by adults or children and includes the following:
- Emotional abuse
- Psychological abuse
- Controlling behaviour
What can the Court do?
There are two types of Orders available:
- Non-Molestation Order – to state that a person cannot contact you and cannot go within a certain distance of your residence, protecting both adult and child victims
- Occupation Order – to exclude an individual from the family home usually for a fixed term
Domestic abuse victims should not suffer in silence and should obtain necessary protection from the Family Courts. We provide straightforward and confidential advice which can often be the first step to regaining control.
